Claim back the extra cost of gluten-free groceries through an FSA or HSA, or as a tax deduction when your other medical costs already qualify.
ⓘ Who can claim
You (or your dependent) are on a medically necessary gluten-free diet, for example for celiac disease. Anyone can use GF Savings to track gluten-free spending; getting money back needs a claim route and a doctor's letter, both below.
A route to claim through: an FSA or HSA, or an itemized tax deduction if your other medical costs already put you over the IRS threshold.
You'll need a Letter of Medical Necessity from your doctor when you submit. We'll help you request one, then combine it with your report in your browser at download. It never leaves your device.
Only the excess cost (GF price minus regular price) is eligible, not the full purchase price
Three things worth knowing, so this is money you actually get back.
You need an FSA or an HSA.
That is the account this money comes back through. If you do not have one yet,
open enrollment is the time to fix that.
You need a doctor to confirm it.
They write a short letter saying a gluten-free diet is medically necessary. Most
practices do this through a patient portal in a couple of days.
The money is not instant.
You submit the claim to your administrator yourself, and they usually take a few
weeks to pay you back.
We find the eligible items and build the claim. The doctor and the
submission are yours.
